IS IT TIME FOR A CHANGE? 55 YEARS OF TIME AND SPACE AND WE FINALLY HAVE A FEMALE DOCTOR. SINCE 1963, we have always had a male playing The Doctor. This was because it was seen as the 'Normal' thing to do, also the majority of The Doctors companions were always female. People may see this as a feminist move by the BBC. However, it may not necessarily be considered as feminism due to the fact The Doctor regenerates and it is genetically random to what happens so it would be seen as 'natural' for The Doctor to change gender, as The Doctors facial features have changed in aged in the past. There has been comments such as 'Sorry, but it's not doctor who for me.' However, people who have previously been on doctor who e.g. Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman are supporting Jodie Whittaker all the way.
