IS IT TIME FOR A CHANGE?

55 YEARS OF TIME AND SPACE AND WE FINALLY HAVE A FEMALE DOCTOR.

SINCE 1963, we have always had a male playing The Doctor. This was because it was seen as the 'Normal' thing to do, also the majority of The Doctors companions were always female.

People may see this as a feminist move by the BBC. However, it may not necessarily be considered as feminism due to the fact The Doctor regenerates and it is genetically random to what happens so it would be seen as 'natural' for The Doctor to change gender, as The Doctors facial features have changed in aged in the past.

There has been comments such as 'Sorry, but it's not doctor who for me.' However, people who have previously been on doctor who e.g. Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman are supporting Jodie Whittaker all the way. Jenna Coleman had said 'I love it' and that it was 'genius' to have a female doctor. Peter Capaldi had claimed 'She is going to be fantastic'.

OTHER VIEWS: Karen Gillan (Amelia Pond) said she 'is excited'

In the past there was a dispute that she wouldn't be paid the same amount as previous Doctors e.g Capaldi  As the new female Doctor, she wasn't being paid the same as previous Doctors due to the gender pay gap. However, Whittaker fought for equal pay so she is now getting paid the same as Capaldi (12th Doctor) which is around £200,00-£249,00.

Here are some examples of the relationships that have changed over the years
William Hartnell had his granddaughter travelling with him. Through the 60's and to the 70's the female companions were most little, pretty and the ones in trouble. It wasn't until the 70's-80's and 2000's where the female companions became an emotional attachment. For example Rose Tyler, The Doctor became very attached to her even fell in love with her until he had to let her go. It wasn't until we had Donna Noble where the female companions became 'bossy' (someone who made The Doctor change his mind)
During Matt/Peter's era with Clara Oswald where we had the female character somewhat in charge. For example one of Clara's quotes was "I was born to save The Doctor."
