Film
When we started planning for our film we based it on a psychological horror and wanted to think how it can affect our audience. After a while of planning Hannah said that she read somewhere that if you look in the mirror for longer than 10 minutes without looking away then your brain starts forming shapes/creatures that aren't actually there. In the film, the main girl is repeating the same thing everyday but is slowly dying each day until the end when she dies. We came up with the idea for a psychological horror through the love of those types of games and films
In our film we have the stereotypical characters e.g.: The best friend, the ghost and the girl who is obsessed with her looks. We had the friend seem for rational so the film seemed more grounded in reality.
We mainly based the film's 'bad character' around the girl from the ring the character was dressed in a black dress and had her hair in front of her face
With the character who was obsessed with herself, we never really had an inspirational idea for her not until after filming that we decided to base them on stereotypical people from horror films.
We based the two girls characters along the lines of mean girls especially the main protagonist she was very obsessed with her looks and herself whereas her best friend isn’t obsessed as she held a more rational view point and is more relaxed and doesn’t see any point in being obsessed with herself.
The end of the film is left on a cliff hanger when the best friend walks in on the main protagonist dead and finds a note saying “you’re next”
The final selected design was based around the game Bloody Mary game and how your brain can play tricks on you, or so you think its just a trick, and then we developed it around somebody being obsessed with herself and what Hannah had read online (looking into the mirror for longer than 10 minutes without looking away makes your brain create things that aren't there)
The three main researches we used were
~What a psychological horror is
~ The origin of the bloody Mary game
~ How to play the Bloody Mary Game
We never had a script we just decided on the day of the shoot before each scene what we were going to say. We didn't use a recce form as the majority was on sight or on the bench next to the creative art studio or within the block aka the changing rooms.
The filming process was rather easy, we had 12 scenes however, we never had 12 to begin with we actually had 11 but last minute decided to add another to give it more of a cliff hanger. When editing we gave the 'bathroom' scenes a darker effect as the lighting wasn't able to be edited manually as they were censored lights. The scenes with the 'evil spirit' in we gave a flickered effect to give it the vibe of a horror movie as if the lights are flickering. During the end of our editing we came to the decision of making it black and white to give it more of an eerie look and feel to it. We didn't add in any sounds or music as we didn't think it was necessary and we didn't want the 'horror' vibe to be taken away.
we had a few people watch it and give feedback.
1- Good in black and white2-- Good affect
3- need background music
4- sound quality needed sorting
We need to improve on the sound quality by putting background music in and sort the actual audio out as there was an echo in it. We could improve this by editing the audio and removing the echo in premier pro.
